Many visitors of Sri Lanka choose a tour that contains some culture and history, a nature part and stay on the beach. Ranjan Wijayarupa, who acompanies many travelers for a few days as driver and guide, gives the following example, on how a tour could look like:

3 Day Tour

Day 1: Start from Colombo or Negombo (Airport) to Polonnaruwa. Visit of the Dambulla Caves on the way. Stay over night in Polonnaruwa.
Day 2: Visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa in the morning and head to Sigiriya. Stay over night in Sigiriya.
Day 3:Visit Sigiriya Rock Citadel in the morning and drive back to Colombo or Negombo.

5 Day Tour

Day 1-3: as 3 day tour, but drive from Sigiriya to Kandy.
Day 4: Cultural day in Kandy: Visit the view point, the Temple of the Tooth and the Bottonical Garden. Stay in Kandy over night.
Day 5: Visit the Elephant Orphanage and drive back to Colombo or Negombo.

7 Day Tour

Day 1-5: as 5 day tour, but after visiting the Elephant Orphanage, drive back to Kandy. Stay over night in Kandy.
Day 6: Head to Nuwara-Eliya. Visit the Tea Plantations, Tea Fluckers, Tea Factory and Water Fall. Stay over night in Nuwara-Eliya.
Day 7: Drive from Nuwara-Eliya to Colombo or Negombo via St.Claire and the Devon Water Falls.

9 Day Tour

Day 1-7: as 7 day tour, but drive from Nuwara-Eliya to Ella. Hiking in the evening. Stay over night in Ella.
Day 8: Head from Ella to Tissa. Visit Rawana Ella water fall on the way. Visit Yala National Park in the evening. Stay over night in Tissa.
Day 9: Day 9: Tissa to South Beach. Stay on the beach during the day and drive back to Colombo or Negombo.
